Description
This is a wide-ranging and diverse book, based on contributions to the 'Affirming Our Value Base in Social Work and Social Care' conference which took place on 1st March 2006 in Nottingham.
The text focuses upon an array of key concepts historically associated with the activities of the `helping professions? but including thematic explorations of poverty, inequality, user perspectives; and of the essential components of the helping relationship, such as empathy, compassion and conviction. It includes chapters on globalisation, anti-oppressive practice, racial tolerance and social exclusion.
The list of contributors includes several high-profile names including Lena Dominelli, Sarah Banks, Yasmin and George Ritzer.
The book will be a key text for students undertaking the qualifying social work degree, and for those studying Youth Work, Youth Justice, Education Welfare, Probation, Health Care, Counselling and Community Work. Due to the range of contributors it is also likely to appeal to an international audience. The book is primarily aimed at undergraduate students as well as practitioners and professionals within the field of social care who would also find this an essential resource given the current emphasis placed on interdisciplinary working.
