Person Specification

A person specification is also normally included with the application form. A person specification differs from the job description in that it describes the skills and attributes needed by the person to perform the job satisfactorily. The person specification contains the required qualifications, physical attributes and job related competencies which are normally divided into “essential” and “desired”. The job description and person specification should be read closely to identify key skills, personal attributes and any other information that will help you complete the application form.

You should not instantly dismiss the possibility of success in your application if you do not have all of the desirable qualities. Remember these are not essential. If you match some and have potential to develop the others then proceed and be prepared to discuss these at interview. Even some of the essential qualities, which at first glance seem to bar you from the post, may well be things that you can fulfil by the transferable skills you have developed. Review and reflect on your CV and portfolio before being defeated by this.
