Some of the features of the Wildcats series (click to enlarge)

High-interest, lower-ability
Wildcats is a reading programme designed to provide high-interest books for lower-level readers aged eight years and over. The texts are excellent for Guided Reading and help to meet the objectives set out in the Renewed Primary Framework.

Anthologies
Each title is an anthology with a variety of genre and text-types in each: from fantasy to fable, poem to personal narrative and non-fiction.

The Adventure Journals
The Adventure Journals provide students with the opportunity for independent work while teachers work with other groups of students.

Each level includes:

  • 1 copy of 12 titles
  • 1 set of Teacher's Notes/Guided Reading Lesson Plans
  • Copiable Masters in the "Adventure Journal" and Teachers Support CD ROM
  • Correlation charts linking Wildcats with the Renewed Primary Framework
The books contain:

  • Strong pictoral support
  • Straight forward language structures
  • Short, simple sentences
  • Regular line breaks
  • High-frequency vocabulary introduced in a controlled way
  • Simple glossaries
  • Pronunciation guides
  • Frequent repetition of familiar words

Example from "Take a Look" in Cougar Level as used in the Hi-Five programme with Fischer Education Ltd (supported by Fischer Family Trust).

KS3 Wildcats Lesson Plans

The 5 higher levels (Lions to Panthers) each have lesson plans which meet KS3 Renewed Primary Frameworkobjectives. These provide a structured approach to the teaching of Literacy skills.
