More about Sounds Great!

Sounds Great! supports both teacher-led and independent work, making it appropriate for use in all parts of the Literacy Hour.

Teacher-led Activities
A large-screen monitor or TV attached to a computer transforms Sounds Great! into a wonderful resource for shared reading and for focused word- and sentence-level work with the whole class.

Sounds Great! is also invaluable as a teaching tool for small groups. The interactive activities provide excellent opportunities to focus on a particular skill or concept, and many of the lesson ideas and copy masters are designed for group work.

Positive audio feedback and “help” and “sound” buttons help children to review choices and replay instructions.

The CD-ROMs are simple to navigate, allowing children to work confidently and successfully with minimal teacher support.

Children Working Independently
The child-friendly design of the CD-ROMs ensures that children can work successfully with minimal teacher support. You will find that Sounds Great! is invaluable as a learning centre resource when you are working with small groups for direct instruction, such as guided reading.

Even in a classroom with only one or two computers, many children can easily be working on Sounds Great! at once. Some can be working at the computer(s), while others can be completing copy master activities.

It is recommended that children be paired with a partner when working through the on-screen activities. As they discuss answers, solve problems and negotiate control of the computer, they will be building vital oral and social skills and practising cooperative learning.

Plenary Sessions
Both on-screen and off-screen activities from Sounds Great! are ideal for discussion during plenary sessions.
