“The Fisherman and his wife” E-Book
The Fisherman and his wife story was a huge success with the Year 3 and 4 children in my class as it was colourful, entertaining and we found it great fun. I found the CD-ROM version useful on the whiteboard to involve all the children, especially the children who find reading and writing difficult.
We used the CD-ROM on the interactive whiteboard and the Big Book during our literacy session to help teach the conventions of speech or thought bubbles. The illustrations were very powerful and helped to sustain the children's attention throughout the session.
We were also able to amend the text by using the text boxes and the children could write their own version of the story. I enjoyed our class discussion about the characters; their thoughts, feelings and the moral of the story.
There are many different aspects to this book. We looked at the narrative story but the book also contained a poem, informational text, a newspaper report, instructional and a play. This book could cover several weeks of literacy objectives and I have no hesitation in recommending it as an interactive resource for the classroom.
