What are Anthology Big Books?

This series of eight titles is designed to help you model a range of reading and writing strategies all within one book. This helps to make it easier for children to understand how the same story or topic can be presented in different ways.

Oral language is also emphasised, enhancing children’s understanding of language in both written and oral forms and developing thinking skills.

Features includes:

  • A variety of titles offering familiar settings, stories from other cultures and plays.
  • Supportive language structures and patterns with plenty of rhyme, rhythm and repetition.
  • Stories by the same authors - Brenda Parkes and Jant Hillman.
  • Illustrative type to highlight dialogue and encourage dramatisation.
  • Special features - such as different sizes, positioning and colour.
  • Cross-Curricular - History, Geography, Software / Interactive, PSHE

Each book contains several linked texts.
Every title starts with a story that’s ideal for shared reading, and this is followed by short texts in a variety of genres from fiction and non-fiction:

  • Recounts
  • Reports
  • Procedureal Texts
  • Explanations
  • Poetry
  • Letters, postcards and e-mails
