TARGET MARKET
Please give the following information on the target market and
positioning of your proposed text; you should consider a typical
course/module:
TEXT STRUCTURE
AND CHAPTER CONTENT/OUTLINES
Please give the following information:
APPROACH/TREATMENT
Describe your overall approach/treatment of material/topics in
your proposed text, including the mix/balance of theoretical/conceptual
and practical/applied elements. You should also highlight any
specific examples of your treatment/approach to topics being unique
or differentiated.
WRITING STYLE
Characterise your style of writing in the context of your proposed
target market.
PEDAGOGICAL MATERIAL
Describe and quantify the type, purpose and placement of teaching
and learning features in your proposed text, e.g. learning objectives,
chapter introduction/summary, integrated/boxed case examples,
highlighted key terms/definitions, worked examples, further reading,
etc.
ASSESSMENT MATERIAL
Describe and quantify the type, purpose and placement of assessment
material in your proposed text. For instance you may wish to include
integrated activity-style questions, chapter-end narrative/numerical
questions, Internet exercises, part-end case studies, etc. You
should also indicate if you plan to include any answers/solutions
for lecturers and/or students, either in the text and/or supplementary
products
ILLUSTRATIVE MATERIAL
Briefly summarise the type and extent of illustrative material
in your proposed text, e.g. tables, diagrams, and any proposed
reproduction of artwork and/or photographs.
SUPPLEMENTARY PRODUCTS
An increasing number of the textbooks we publish are supported
by additional related products to support lecturers and students
in their planning and delivery of courses, and their assessment
of student performance. We are investing to increase the provision
of such material in both print and electronic-based media, and
particularly in new and emerging web-based, on-line delivery media.
You should therefore consider your textbook proposal as one element
in a package of materials. We therefore encourage you to visit
pages on our to view examples of the type of on-line material
you might consider in your proposal.
COMPETITION
Based on the following criteria, please provide a brief comparative
analysis of your proposed text against what you regard as the
two leading texts in your target market:

DIFFERENTIATING
FEATURES AND COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES
Summarise the elements of your proposed text and supplementary
products which differentiate them from the above texts and any
others in your target market, and how these points will translate
into competitive advantages we can sell and market to potential
adopters and students.
YOUR TEACHING AND PUBLISHING BACKGROUND
Please provide a brief summary of:
SCHEDULE
Please give a realistic assessment of when you expect to commence
writing your manuscript (assume we will make a decision on your
proposal within eight weeks of its submission), and the number
of months you expect to need for its completion.
SAMPLE CHAPTER(S)
Please provide us with at least one full-length chapter, which
is representative of the style, level, approach and substance
of your proposed text - illustrating its strongest and most distinctive
elements. We recognise that you may be in a position to produce
a draft only at this stage, however, your sample material is an
important element in our decision-making, and it will also be
reviewed externally. We therefore strongly recommend that it is
comprehensive and includes examples of the pedagogical features,
illustrative and assessment material you plan to include in the
text. For this reason, please do not submit the first/introductory
chapter of your proposed text, but choose one or more
